MINING INSIGHTS
GOLDEN RULES TO LIVE BY
Always…
Follow procedures. Your safety and the safety of others is your responsibility.
Take your time. If you don’t have time to do it right the first time, you don’t have time to do it twice.
Report hazards. Don’t assume somebody else has. Know how to action them when you see them.
Drink water. Stay hydrated. Drink water like your life depends on it - because it does.
Use sun protection. It’s so easy NOT to get sunburnt. Wear sunscreen, SPF lip balm, and use your PPE correctly.
Manage your fatigue. Educate yourself on fatigue management and good sleep hygiene.
Speak up. If you see something, say something. Or, follow up privately with someone you trust when you feel comfortable.
Moisturise. Harsh working conditions, hard water, heat and laborious work will take a toll.
Be polite. Say please and thank you. Manners are free.
Clean up after yourself. Be courteous to others.
Give it a go. Follow the processes, ask for help and challenge yourself.
Never…
Take risks or rush tasks. Follow the processes. There are rules for a reason.
Ignore hazards. If you see something unsafe, do something about it. Immediately.
Use your phone while driving or operating machinery. It’s so easy NOT to touch your phone. Don’t do it, ever.
Come to work under the influence. You’re putting your own safety and everyone else’s at risk. Immediate stand down.
Work while fatigued. If you’re tired, stop work or take the day off.
Use naivety as an excuse. It won’t fly. Education is your responsibility.
Be a bully. We’re all adults. Discriminating against others is childish.
Harass your co-workers. You’re still an employee in a work environment. Respect personal and professional boundaries.
Bring prohibited items. There are no exceptions. Immediate stand down.
Miss your flight. The only excuse is an emergency. Plan ahead.
Give in to peer pressure. It’s okay to say “no thank you”, or remove yourself from situations.
Steal stuff. All-round general life advice. Leave the towels at camp.
Screw the crew. We’re not explaining this one.
Be afraid to make mistakes. Just make sure to learn from them.
